IV Hydration

1.PNG

The term “hydration” is defined as combining with water or water elements. IV hydration is not just associated with minor water deficiency, which can be treated with sports drinks and electrolytes. The IV hydration process is for those who experience seizures and go into shock due to severe dehydration. To treat moderate to severe cases of dehydration, you need to go through intravenous rehydration.

At our urgent care center in Bakersfield, CA, the IV hydration fluids are combined with various vitamins and minerals to replenish your body’s water and nutrient supply.

When Should I Go to the ER For Dehydration?

Severe dehydration can be life-threatening. Visit your nearest urgent care center for IV infusion immediately if you have any of these symptoms:

  • Urinating small amounts of dark-colored urine

  • Not urinating

  • Severe diarrhea

  • Muscle cramps

  • Dizziness and weakness

  • Confusion

  • Sunken eyes

  • Dry and wrinkled skin with little elasticity

  • Consciousness change

You’re advised to increase your fluid intake to replenish your body’s fluid levels for minor hydration symptoms. Book an appointment online or walk-in to our urgent care center if you feel moderate to severe dehydration symptoms. Upon arrival and check-in, your doctor will assess your situation and determine the appropriate treatment option.

What Should I Expect During the Procedure?

  • When you enter the clinic, the experts will analyze the type of fluids your body requires.

  • After that, based on multiple factors like weight, age, and medical conditions, they determine the amount of fluid you need.

  • The skin where the IV will go, usually on the inside of the elbow or top of the hand, is cleaned.

  • An elastic band is tied around your arm to make blood fill the veins.

  • Then a sterile needle is put into the vein, ensuring that the fluid can go in without obstruction.

  • The IV needle is taped to your arm so that it stays in place.

  • The small tube is attached to the longer tube and affixed to a bag of fluids.

  • The bag is then hung from a hook on a tall IV stand, and the machine that will pump the fluid into the IV line is switched on.
